Hello , im not an electrician by a long way but normally get by without any nasty shocks (always get someone else to switch it on ha ha ).. butme and my mate have got a problem with hos Elliott Progress no2 Paillar Drill .. he got it without a motor, but had a good motor in his garage that we just fitted to it. we ran it up and all seems fine.... but this was just direct to the plug on the wall (yes its single phase ) and obviously the motor would only turn the one way. . the motor is a brooks gryphon motor that can run both forward and reverse etc. ..... He has now taken out the little cross over bars on the motor wiring like it says on motor and wired it all to the elliott switch like it says on the Elliott manual page about wiring the motor to the switch.... now when we turn it on in fwd or revers the motor now hums and does not spin up ?? ... what we have noticed is on the wiring diagram at the very bottom it says . " ONE LEAD FROM CAPACITATOR MUST BE TAKEN DIRECT TO SWITCH " err can anyone shed light on where on the switch we are to put the wire and from what wire on the capacitator . we realy are blind about this..... here is the diagram that is from elliott for this very motor...... any help will be very much apreciated.... oh and yes we have a earth going to the drill body and the motor body....(just put this on somehwere else on this site but no idea where now.
