Ok, So the boss comes down at tea break and says
"Gerry can you go on site and weld a little plate"
Sure i said, so i got all my bits ready, loaded the welder genny on the truck, got my rods and tools and off i went to a Hospital where they are demolishing some of the old parts.
So i left to go to the hospital and try and find where i would need to weld this plate?
This is what i found
Its a Ram Guard Its about 4ft long and made up of 100mm angle at 10mm thick, then there the bit that slides inside with the Hinge Attachment.
Its got to go on the ram casing and the hinge bit welds onto the hinge of the excavator, to protect the ram as it extends. See the picture below, Look at that nice shiny ram just looking to get damaged..
It took 4 of us to lift it onto the ram casing, i'd already sanded off the paint, Then i welded the guard on using low-hydrogen rods 7018.
Using the Low hydrogen rods i achieved Excellent puddle control, resulting in easier out-of-position welding, Ease of use, Great arc initiation, Minimal clean-up and a Wider operating range
I was pleased with the end result, i asked the driver to give it some rough, well just see the video below for yourselves..
