I cant help myself, I wanted to join in and do another "show your first tig weld" post. So apologies to everyone who has read a million of these already.
So I finally have a proper power supply to the garage, and the transtig is up and running....on and off anyway.......It seems a bit temperamental.
So here is my very quick and easy modified workmate welding table:
And my nice and shiney first piece of metal to weld:
And my nice sharp new cerated tungsten (thanks to weldequip):
And finally the results of my first attempt at tigging. I was using 60A max on 3mm steel plate.
You can see it blew through in a couple of places, this is what i meant by it being temperamental - sometimes it just seems to give full power without warning and trips the breaker. I hope its an old malfunctioning variable resistor or something like that.
I found my pinky finger getting really bl**dy hot on the few runs which are over a few inches. How do the pro's avoid this when doing long runs?
Any comments and advice gratefully accepted.
