I have a old log saw, belt driven from a 7hp robin dy35 diesel. Originally it had a 5kw 3 phase electric motor in place of the robin but it caught fire due to the insulation going brittle with age and was too expensive to replace and the robin was left over from a old pedestrian roller. Blade diameter is from memory 60cm and the first thing to suffer now is the belt slips as a safety release in event of something bad happening. Its geared 1:1 blade to motor so top speed 3600rpm.
It also still has the original swinging vee table to put the logs in to swing them into the blade that also uncovers the blade guard via a linkage, and a quick clamp for the same acting as the feed in handle. Without and sawing logs sooner or later one will kick back and either your fingers will end up near the blade,or it will spit the log out and it will hit you in the head or in the chest/stomach violently. Stagger to house so pass out in front of other people level of pain territory, which is why I have a log saw with a swing in table now.
Still scared of it even with the table but I don't use it that much as easier to buy in wood cut to size, but when I do, it's one hell of a tool for the job. And having a healthy respect for something is a safety feature.
