I wanted to make a stand to hold rolls of cable or if I wanted something to hold a reel whilst I wound some up...
So... I made these as a start:
There approximately 400mm high, so big enough to cope with most of the reels I have.
The bottoms of the verticals were mitred and the diagonal supports just in case...
All made out of 40mm SHS, 4mm thick...
Arc welded with my little Chinese combo on DC electrode +ve at 100A with 3.2mm Vodex...
And some pics of the welds...
At the bottom of a diagonal:
One of the sides of the diagonals:
And one of the mitres:
Some of the other welds weren't so good but that was because I wasn't taking care and was beginning to get tired
There's an album I'll keep updated as I go along and finish the stand:
Cable roll stand
On the mitres I preped with about a 1/2mm root gap, 2mm root face and 45° angle...
My Evo saw didn't cut the mitres so neatly as the blade moved off at an angle so I "fudged" it
