I think this an overdue post due to vast numbers of miss leading welder sales.
These have now caught out a few members on here from a transaction leading to a box missing parts and the worst been a total loss of a grand for a welder that never exsisted.
You cannot for a second let down your guard.
The last 7 of my AC/DC tig sets were all bought used. And I haven't had a bad transaction due to the approach I take.
You need to assume every answer to your question is exaggerated. If it's only had 20 hours work it's probably had 40.
My set of rules are try and keep it to a privately owned machine. If the people who have been using it didn't pay for it then it's likely they didn't care for it in the same way as someone who did.
Look for obvious signs of abuse.
Small scuffs and general marks are expected but a huge dent in the side badly covered by a car sticker needs explaining.
Are the vents covered in thick dust where he couldn't get in with his cloth to try clean it.
Test it. This is a MUST.
why on earth people would not do this without some sort of warranty been offered on it I'll never know. Go and see it and try every feature, been proactive pays off. Arm chair shoppers get stung then wonder why. Avoid machines that contain things like. Untested, should work, no plug, no leads , post only, belongs to a friend I know nothing about it, while yes some of these could be legit are you prepared to risk your money.
Never pay unsecured. That's just stupid. Sorry if that's an insult to those that have but it really is stupid. Bacs payments and posting cash is about the worst thing you can do when your hoping the seller is trusting enough to send you the goods. Ummmmmm maybe they will maybe they'll run for the hills.
Also when you see a used machine you think you like, google it. How much is/was it new. Is it a big saving buying it used at that price. Are there any failure trends on it. Has it been modified like a fronius water cooler with a new 24v supply sitting in it.
In this case the mod was performed with excellence
But some ain't and you need to know why was it modded. Hope you guys can add some more to this as it does pee me off when good people get stung for there money. This could be a useful thread with good info.
