Butters machines are not bad at all, I have a 211 which is a lovely smooth machine. Nicely built and uses a good quality wire feed system. The duty cycles aren't the highest but they're certainly ok. The 1800 would be ideal for car stuff and occasional light fabrication. Euro torch connection too which is a nice feature and it will run fine on a 13A plug as long as you don't run it too long on it's higher settings. The best price I can find it is here which is actually a forum member, diywelding.
The 1800 model is not up to much in my opinion, although that's reflected in the price. You'd be better with the 181 model... much better build quality with a far superior wire feed system etc.
What kind of work do you need it for?

It'll be fine for that then & at £300 I don't think there's much else on the market, certainly a step up from the hobby machines, although you are still getting the same type of wire feed.
