Yes
Did some work for a local artist some time ago, lettering machined into steel plate, and filled with brass, well actually bronze, ,you need silicon bronze filler, no flux, DC. don't try it with ordinary brazing rod as they contain zinc which boils off and makes a mess.
The difficult bit for me was not melting the corner edge of the steel, with the arc, but the actual brazing process was fairly easy.
...you need silicon bronze filler, no flux...
Does that mean that the tig brazing process can not be used on aluminum?
Hi
Yea,I should have said keep the amps low, about 30 to start with, and use a 2.4 tungsten then its just down to practice.
Hi wheelchairwelder.
I'd have been doing quite alot of Tig brazing on Motorcycle frames etc .
Managed to procure a quantity of Sifphospor No8 rods and they tig braze like a dream .
Flow etc is beautiful.
Trouble is - !. these sifphospor No8 rods are about £100 a kilo ofr 1.6mm dia rods and 2. i have now ran out of the rods but dont want to pay nearly £100 for any !
I am looking for a much cheaper alternative, but have already been sold the wrong rods TWICE by BOC, who have now turnrd around and said they have never heard of the Tig brazing process !
Urmmmmmmmm funny that as if you look in there current catalouge under TIG filler wire/rods, you will see several for sale ! The one they recomended to me was a rod called CZ6 . DO NOT try using this rod for Tig brazing , it is full of zinc, and spits like hell when tiging ! This is a gas brazing rod ! I also suspect that you are experiancing the same thing - spitting and white deposits, too much zinc which boils off with the heat of the tungston arc ! You have gas brazing rods - i suspect .
Finally i have emailed Sif and asked them if they will either reccomend another rod suitable for Tig brazing or sell the Sifposphor in smaller quantities !!!!
I'd be VERY interested to know of anyone who can reccomend a Tig braze fille rrod that doesnt spit and fluff !
Regards
Mark
