yes they are rusty and the pins were rusty now they have had a vinegar bath they are very pitted new sliders are on order but how to treat the slider holes?
I did 2 Discovery 3 and a Volvo Amazon caliper(split in half) today using 60ml paint thinned to 90ml. 2 coats and had paint left in the gun. I've done 3 other split caliper(all quite big) with the same tin and I've probably got 1/3-1/2 left in the tin. I just used whatever thinners I had but I'm sure they will say you need special thinners. I had previously used it 50/50 but it's too thin that way. It's a nice finish, not satin but not bling gloss either.I've not used anything other than the black as I'm not a fan of the other colours. On a warm sunny day you could easily build the calipers later in the same day.
To be fair it's easy enough to clean any paint that get in the bore with a craft knife or a quick buzz with a brake hone. Painting them with pistons and seals in is never going to be as good a job. It's like masking around window rubbers when painting a car
what is the best way to clean the slider bores out?
Mine have outer metal dust seal retainer rings, so doing it with the pistons in meant I could paint these and seal the edge where they press into the calliper body.
I take your point though.
