how hard can it be?

hi everyone, im a 50 year old ex pat scot, retired builder/sparky living in sw france. my welding experience is minimal, but i'm keen to learn. i've so much time on my hands between this 15 bedroom hotel to renovate and 1/2 doz old bangers parked up in the barn needing work. i run a trusty ldv convoy, ex post office, and an aging p38 gas guzzling range rover. fortunately neither need welding just now.
i've always been into cars and bikes and always wanted to renovate one. so before embarking on sorting out some old car or other, i thought it might be an idea to learn how to weld properly. never too old for something new. i run a small garage as well, more as an excuse to have some decent big boys toys around than anything. if anyone's throwing out a suitable candidate for me to practice on that would be nice, but something worth saving please. we live in a constant state of penury here but i'm sure that barn find is just around the corner.
how many others are there round here on this forum? they call this place little guilford locally, it's so stuffed full of english. not so many scots though. my other main interest is music. i run a jam night in a finished(ish) part of the hotel every thursday night. i don't think the stones are feeling threatened yet but we're getting better every week.
i imagine i'll probably need some advice and help till i get the jargon sorted out, after which the practical side should be fun if nothing else. i read here someone has two of these aga 200 3 phase migs. mine came with no instructions or gas bottle. the guy i got it from i don't think new anything about it so was no help in setting it up or anything and i had no clue what questions to ask. if someone has a set of instructions for this machine and would email them to me that would be a great place to start.
i'll do my best not to try the patience of all you professional types on here by searching for answers before i give in and ask for help. if anyone lives within 50miles or so of riberac, i'd like to know where to go for supplies though. regards, stewart
