I have about 7 or 8 irons of all sorts. Gas fired - cordless and expensive low voltage ones. They are all crap! I had a job to do a while ago and got very frustrated. Not very big wires but just couldnt get enough heat. Even the 120W one was struggling. The gas ones are useless because as soon as you turn them upside down the gas cools the tip.
Then I remembered an old yellow iron my dad had back in the 70s. Antex! I checked and yes still in production and British. The wattage sees low but the heat transfer is amazing because the tips fit so tightly.
I treated myself to a 50W one from maplin for £60. It is awesome.
Forget any iron with screw on tips - tight push on is the way to go.
