Bending 4130 steel tube

Mate of mine is making a car chassis - He's bought some 4130 aircraft grade steel. He needs it bending - Company he uses has applied 10 tons to the tube and it hasn't budged! Is this correct and if so, what force do you need to apply to bend 4130 steel. Any thoughts out there?

I like that I thought the old boy wasnt going to make it thru the whole vid but like a trooper he did it

I think I would want a hydraulic bender just for the speed aspect

2" x 0.12" wall thickness - through an angle of 15 degrees. We're southampton (Nr Airport)

I can bend moly on my machine up to 2" which is the largest former i have,
Heres some 1.625" x 0.083" moly i bent recently for a cage.

I'm probably too far from you at around 100+ miles?

I don't think the unit on youtube above would do it, you would probably need a hydraulic machine. You may be able to hire one from a local centre. I use a 20 ton Staffa.

too far from me to help, you need a radius bender like chevy2's but not a crossbow one,which isnt good at all

The one in the youtube vid might do moly if it works on the same principal as my hydraulic machine with a guide thats needed to follow around the outside of the tube to support it so it doesn't collapse or distort while bending,

From experience on my machine moly is no more difficult than cds tube to bend, the main noticeable thing while bending is the moly tends to spring back more when releasing the tension.

yes it has a sweeping die with it Gary. Ray White built his pro-mod chassis with one and yes the do a hydraulic conversion for it swag off road do it.

It is not exactly "thin wall" tube at .12" and it is about the most cost effective way of bending it and kit available. The crossbow type bender may well distort the tube but I think it is a "suck it and see" situation. It is only a 15 degree bend. It may need filling with silver sand but because there are a few bends to do this may not be the way to go. Did it have to be 4130?

I've got a bow n arrow type bender,
Tried both the sand packing and heating methods which all failed miserably on cds tube,
also tried exhaust gauge tube in steel and s/steel also without success.

I stricktly only use that bender on the 1/8" wall seamed chs tube as thats all those machines are really good for.
