Thanks for your advice.. So a separate milling machine advised yes..most drills arent suitable for milling even if there substantial the quill and bearings arent designed for side cutting
Any mill with quill feed, and definitely not a horizontal with a universal head.I thought as much but was wondering whether certain ones are more suited, eg they have more vertical head travel or something? (I'd be interested to know as I'm looking to have our garage rebuilt and would like some smallish machines to keep me busy in there - it's Only a single garage though so I am limited n space , hence the interest in this thread!)
Yeah, by winding the table up and down, what about with smaller drills that like to be backed off mid cut, you'd take 10 times longer than you would with quill feed. Yes it's possible, it's like cutting bread with a coldsaw, It might cut it but you just wouldn't.You can make a horizontal drill holes, even universal type... Quill feed isn't strictly a necessity
either.
Are there any small milling machines that also make decent bench drills? (A genuine question as I don't know the answer) QUOTE]
Have look at the Axminster Tool site, they have some Mill/Drill combos.
