Hi Guys.
I am looking to purchase a decent small compact welder for stick welding. I've had a good look through previous threads but still a little unsure as to what would be best choice for my needs. This is basically for a hobby but will benefit me in my line of work also. I am looking into booking an evening course at a local venue to learn the basics. I'll try give as much information as possible to help choosing a suitable bit of kit.
At first I was thinking of a small compact welder which I could run off a 13amp socket at home in my garage. I'm now thinking I maybe better with 110v as if I ever need to take it to my workplace or site then 240v isn't ideal as most sites prefer 110v. This wouldnt be to much hassle for using at home as I have a small 110v transformer, leads ect. What I intend on welding is box section steel or round pipe which would be used in a kit car chassis which would be mild steel. For my line of work , I would be welding on stainless steel anchors to mild steel. The anchor would probably be around 10mm in thickness and circular and the base welded onto a flat piece of mild steel plate. More than likely not the cleanest with surface rust. Budget wise I can go as far as £500 if required.
