So
Been reading up on here for some time and tried to get my head around all the variations and opinions there are.. and there are a lot..... :-)
I generally do hobbyist stuff.. Usual, repairs to things and light bodywork repairs on my own vehicles and join bits of metal here and there for different projects..
My little Sealey mightymig (90 I think) has served me reasonably well (though i have always found it a bit random and sometimes welds need a lot more cleaning up when its all gone horribly wrong for some reason.. (I think combination of poor wire feeds and power control because of limited settings)
My truck needs to come off the road for some major refurbishment, meaning bodywork and some chassis repairs.. also as there is an engine conversion on the cards, some fabrication for that and exhaust will be required.. along with some other projects waiting in the wings for far too long..
Anyway.. Based on what I have read and what I think might suit me the best...
I have come to the conclusion that an R-tech 180, may well be the machine for me.. Johns (Twasted eng) excellent reviews on you tube and seeing how the machine performs and seems to possibly be quite forgiving for a numpty like me..
It may even make my limited skill look quite reasonable on occasion.. lol..
As all of my old kit is past its best, I am thinking of a visit to them to get all the bits and bobs I could need in 1 hit..
Welder bundle.. Ally spool gun (as I have a project in ally I want to do), MMA holder, and even a scratch start gun as I also have a need to tack some stainless together... along with the flow meter, tips, shrouds, new helmet and gloves and all the other consumables I could need to kick me off..
Its quite an investment for me, but the little Sealey has more than earnt its keep in reality...
I am hoping that this machine will allow me to get better at joining metal..
At least if I cant get a grip of the ally and SS, I can at least tack stuff together for someone more skilled than I to finish it off..
Anyway... If there is something I may have missed and I have it all wrong.. let me know... Cheers
