I used to use a poxy ryobi wood vertical bandsaw on non ferrous, and eventually after a year or two the "guides" which were just carbide blocks in a pot metal casting broke. So I just made up a guide holder from a block of aluminium and 3 bearings, cost about a tenner. Its still on the saw but now I have a toolroom 3phase do-all metal saw which is night and day to the old ryobi and copes with ferrous no problem too. But my point is you make do with what you have at the time and a wood saw for non ferrous is better than not having one.I have a wood cutting band saw, which I was hoping to use for aluminium. Blade guides look like they would last about 5 minutes though, so enquired about some suitable for metal, and they were £185................
