Does anyone here use Armstrong tool holders? I'm on a quest to improve the cutting performance of my Boxford vsl, I've scraped in the compound (which was worn badly) and made a new gib for that. I'm about to scrape in the cross-slide as that is bent and worn also.
Once the scraping is complete I want to turn my attention to the toolpost. Currently It has a T51 sized dickson on it with toolholders from various suppliers that sort-of-fit... the overhang from the toolholders is in my opinion, excessive. I'm thinking of switching toolposts to an aloris wedge style (from arc euro), but I wonder if better performance could be obtained by switching back to a lantern style and using Armstrong holders? My father Uses the lantern style on our big leblond but doesn't use Armstrong holders.
Perhaps the rigidity that comes from a large holder supporting the small piece of hss would be beneficial.
Thoughts?
