The big Harlottle machine the sandblasters on my house hired in could be moved with the boom in any position but nothing on the boom could be operated at the same time.Im sure i have used some lifts before that do allow driving when the boom is in the air but just slower, but cant remember if you could slew or drop the basket etc at the same time
It had a tilt sensor that locked out everything if it got a little unbalanced. Which was entertaining at one point.
In order for it to get down from the back of the house to the front I had to drive it down a slope well within its limits but I had to kick the basket up in the air. This enabled the tilt sensor lockout stuff. Gently trundling down the slope the boom bounces very very slightly which instantly cuts the drive to the wheels. Which proceeded to lock up the wheels on a crappy tarmac surface and take it off. Thus the machine took off sliding down the drive towards the house. Luckily it passed through zero at one point briefly which allowed me to turn the wheels slightly and avoid hitting the house and then it slid to a stop.
No idea what the machine weighed but the counterbalance on it was 6.5 tonnes.
