Hi folks,
Anyone in/around Edinburgh who could look at a Harrison M300 for me? Think most of you know i am just out of hospital post stem cell transplant and i am advised to continue self isolating until my immune system recovers, so unfortunately I cannot inspect myself.
If you miss a defect, I would in no way hold you responsible, I just need someone to do their best in an honest inspection, happy to pay for your time.
Second Part what to check/test:
For any lathe, I would do a visual inspection first looking at condition of ways, chuck, spindle bearings, run carriage and cross slide through range of movement checking for tight spots and backlash, run lathe through speeds and feeds to check they work and how noisy. Ideally cut a test piece and check for taper. What else should be checked on an M300?
The lathe in question and some advice I already have is on https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/overdue-a-lathe-upgrade.107660/page-5 Post 98.
The lathe has had a lot of work done on it, though the ways do look pitted, hopefully just where surface rust has been removed and does not impact function, though i suspect it has been well used, so do not expect it to be perfect, I will only be using it as a hobby, so can live with jibs using up a fair amount of the adjustment.
@skotl I know you have offered and am also aware of your current health issues, do not want to abuse you if you are not feeling great.
@fizzy any advice on ease of shipping, its footprint is 1750 x 940 mm and weighs 710 Kg?
Thanks again everyone for some great advice
