red lead that went out 40 years ago do you mean red oxide I might be wrong if you can still get itWork took me to Parr, near by is a small boat yard and they have a small part set aside for parts they have removed and are open to bids on.
When I was routing in the pile for bits, I am after a few old tired boat and ship lights.
I asked about hull inspections.
They replied.
We blast the hull and decks. Paint with red lead. Then we call in the inspector and they do the test.
The report they give us will tell us were we need to cut out, fill or over plate.
I explained why I was asking they said best asked you local yard or what inspector they use for advise.
They didn't give prices or details, but I guess it is reasonably cheep.

red lead was pink mind if I remember rightlyThey said red lead. It looked pink. But an oxide paint is what I guess they meant.
Bit big and heavy to hang on a wall tho.
I'm wondering if you gonna throw quite a bit of money at this project weather you could turn this into a business??? Taking tourist down the Clyde. Maybe something already exists ,I don't know.I found a ship welder and a plater who had a look and said they can do It , but said I would need a surveyor to say what need's replated and how to go about going it.
Hopefully I'll speak to a surveyor this week.
Plan for the engine........... No idea. I may seem like a weirdo, but the engine is like a piece of art, tangible poetry if I must. When I saw It, I knew I had to have It. Bit big and heavy to hang on a wall tho.
The Little Gardner 8l3b I fell in love with with. 24litre 8 cylinders and 230hp at 1150rpm. a smidge over 3 tons without the gearbox.

They were made in Manchester, Out of interest the engine is almost certainly worth a tidy sum on its own even if the boat is beyond repair. A friend bought an old wooden mfv with an 8 cyl Gardner in it a few years back. She was a sunken wreck in a yard on Canvey, I saw the engine in his worshop as he was stripping it. It had been underwater (actually half covered in mud) for at least two years. He broke the trawler up & sold the Gardner for rebuilding. It fetched damn good money.
Keep the pictures coming -- great project!the Gardner is the reason I bought the boat. I have always fancied rebuilding one and tarting it up. Originally the plan was to scrap the boat, hence why it has all been stripped out back to steel. but now its stripped back, Im thinking it may be a doddle to repair now as all messy work has been done.
we filled a 40 yard skip with all the stuff ripped out, and removed about 11 tons of steel from the deck
