I acquired a small 55ft , 55 ton steel boat, mostly because i like the engine.
The boat was laid up in a harbor for more than 4 years without moving or having any maintenance done. pretty much just left to rot away.
The boat is now out the water, and although I originally purchased her for the engine, I have grown attached to the boat and would like to know if she can be saved.
lying in the water without any anodes and little paint has definitely taken its toll.
I am thinking of removing all the steel 1ft below and everything above the waterline and replate with new 6mm plate
this is what she looked like when i got her
this is her at the moment. all the fishing gear has been removed and scrapped, everything inside has been stripped out back to the hull, with exception of the engine room
severe corrosion.
what do you think? is she salvageable? cutting out the old is not an issue, but somehow i am worried about the curves, and gettting 6mm plate to follow those curves.
