This one is coming up tomorrow at my local auction. It looks to be in good condition, what do you think it's worth?
Looks mint condition and a new one would be in the shops for North of a grand.
Is that a bid ?£1528 with the stand.
Is that a bid ?
When I bought my mill the guy was selling a 1.5cwt in virtually unused condition - I got it with stand for £100 which I was very happy with. That was a bit of a find really, I would guess they would normally be double that and a bit more??A 2 1/2 Cwt Brookes is my perfect anvil, I have a 1.5cwt in decent nick that does the job but if I had the cash I'd go £500 on that. I won't touch anything that isn't flat, it's just not worth it in my book, but that looks perfect. It'll go for way more than £500 of course, they fetch stupid money these days!
the last one I sold was a little bigger than that and with the cast stand. Condition was used but decent, about 2/3 of the face was flat and 1/2 of the edges were good.
That went for £350 collected and it did take a while to sell.
That's mad, as long as you've got some decent edge and some flat face then an anvil is fine. My two are both 200+yrs oldNo offence but you'd be the last person I'd want to buy a used anvil from. My ideal owner would be "one lady owner" or a hobbyist who wouldn't know what to stick in his pritchel hole. Not a professional who is "passing it on" either a. to buy a better one or b. because this one is, in your own words, 2/3 ****ed!
