I'm new to Tig, but I'm having a go at welding thin to thick in aluminum. I want to know if there are any other tricks out there
Butt joints and lap are straight forward - chamfer the thick down towards the thin and heat up the thick first.
Fillets in a tee joint i.e. open end of 0.9mm wall tube 45deg on to a 3mm thick pad. This made me think a bit.
I hit on putting a bead on the end of the tube to make it a bit thicker , let it cool then weld to the pad.
It worked but the fillet is quite large
Is there a better way to get a smaller fillet?
(1.6 Zirconiated tungsten, 2.4mm filler rod, amps? dunno its on the pedal)
