Furthermore, the scheme your proposing constitutes fraud/deception.The answer to that is yes.
So you are holding a set of rental cylinders without a contract and not any paying rent? ............that is theft.
I have an account with AP and BOC and in each depot they scan the bar code but dont see iff it corrosponds with the stamped bottles ever...my last bottle with AP had lost its sticker on return (rough handling on site) and they just took it back no problem. The bar code may be a sticker, but it coincides with a serial number stamped into the cylinder. The bar code sticker is only added for the quick convenient use of the scanner, which is then downloaded onto the Air Products system.
I often sub-contract into my local steel supplier as a welder/fabricator, and they also just happen to be an Air Products distributor. About 12 months ago there were several cylinders of various gases that went missing. The guys who worked there had go out into the compound and scan each cylinder and record the serial number stamped into them, and then send the details to Air Products who then confirmed what was what. It turned out that it was a bar code scanner used by one of the Air Products delivery drivers that was not scanning properly due a programme glitch.
Interestingly enough a few weeks later their CCTV picked up some dodgy pikey looking character who had climbed over the security fencing during a weekend and he nicked a load of bar code stickers from Argon Mix cylinders; probably so he or his mates could swap out some very old and out of date empties at another Air Products depot.
And this particular Argon Mix Cylinder cost me a lot of money. I picked it up from one of those just a deposit and pay for the gases, with no cylinder rental places, paid my money and off I went. I few months later I went to another place to get it refilled and they confiscated it from me and informed Air Products, and it was touch and go as to whether I was going to be in the dock for handling stolen goods. Suffice to say I didn't get my deposit back, and I can't name names for legal reasons as the investigation is still on going!
