i need to chrome platting these welded chains, but im sure they are far from ready for that ,,, any advice how and what would be best and cheaper way to achieve good results ?
big money but the job will be 100 percent they wont give u a price unless u send them the part . i had a norton chaincase chromed by them it was scraped and dented .£1oo quid but it was mint after they done it and not a mark on itIf you want a "show chrome" type of job done the top one is fine, It's the plates job to do the final polish if you tell them that's what you want. Springs, nuts, bolts and chains are always a bit dearer due to the labor to polish them.
I can recommend The London Chroming co. on the old kent Rd
yea u can build up with copper plating if u have the gear to do so and even if u do u still have to cut it back and polish it your better off just grinding and polishing the pitmarks and imperfectins out as the tolerances arent critical . amnd if u want a good job u either have to prepaire it yourself or pay the price for chroming company to carry it out for ui was thinking about some copper plating layer to fill up unperfections ,,, or thats not right ?
it wont be cheap unless u do the donkey work or just get it chromed with a ropey finish no pun intendedi have no idea how much they going to charge me
We used to put awkward shaped items in an old tumble drier for a couple of hours with a mixture of pea gravel and sand, they came out perfect and ready for chroming.
Its a good idea not to use the better halfs good drier though, tends to ruin them a bit.
Anything will do that tosses the bit about and allows the gravel to wear away at it for a while.
Depends.. Hard solder uses silver and is for gas piping and other serious work. Soft solder is lead based and is/was used for copper piping in plumbing. If joining steel or other strong stuff, then silver (at around 40% in the rod) Requires a hotter flame to work too.is that same stuff plumbers use for soldering copper ? i heard, that some chrome plating services warning against that
