I have a lincoln 255 mig and I need to do a 12" long vertical weld on an International Truck Chassis. I am attaching a piece of 3/8 angle iron accross the rear section of frame rails. I practiced several passes with the same scrap materials on the bench using .035 wire welding from bottom upwards. the Weld looks good but the bead is not very wide even after weaving. The question is ;can I go to .045 wire on this vertical weld or should I just make root weld with .035 and then add fillet welds to it. Thanks Joe Z. Shoreline Towing
