Hi all, i have a single gauge/ single stage acetylene regulator. it only has the tank presure guage on it and has bar measurements on the base of the tap. How do i measure the flow rate on it? or do i need a flow meter as well.
Hi, just had a thought. i have a propane regulator that i bought off yourself if you remember? anyway i have 4ft bottle of acetylene and a 5ft bottle of oxygen. i know accetylene is a unstable gas and i dont realy like storing that stuff in my lock up. so im thinking of using propane. i have a 19kg bottle, would it last the same as abottle of acetylene?
Would i need to change anything apart from th torch/cutting nozzles? oh yea, would i need propane flash back arrestors?
Do you just use it for heating/cutting, if yes, then propane will be fine.
The propane cylinders dont last as long, but they are cheaper i expect, and more widely available.
Equiptment, flashback arrestor is fine for either i believe, Nozzles, different nozzles....
Hoses, i might need to be corrected on this, but i believe, that acetylene hoses can be used with propane, but not propane hoses for acetylene.
Blimey! That was some time ago... Was it a 4 bar reg, I can't remember???
You'd probably only need to change the cutting nozzles...
A 3/64" "Propane" nozzle, and 2.5 bar Oxygen, same pressure for propane as for acetylene, 0.15 bar...
You'll know if you've got the pressure right, the propane is only needed for the heating flame, so adjust so it's adequate, use the same flashback arrestor
If you have time and some scrap to practice on, once you've preheated a piece of metal, press the cutting lever and start the cut, once you're part way into the cut turn the fuel off, you should be able to continue the cut with just the Oxygen
I was shown a demo of this some time ago...
Edit: You shouldn't use propane hoses for acetylene as the acetone can dissolve the hose, likewise propane can affect the lining of the acetylene hose...
