So after much faff trying to decide what to get to weld my Land Rover chassis with no avalible power supply, I have finally taken the plunge and ordered one of the above off of fleabay. Should arrive on the 18 of November but I won't be home till the 17th December so being able to play with the new toy is going to be put off for a bit. So ounce 2 12v deepcycle batteries have been procured from halfruds on my trade card, and a good quality battery charger I will have a significant proportion of my original budget left even with some extra money being shuffled off to PPE. Original budget was £2500 as I expected to have to buy an engine drive or a new fangled battery mma welder. With the ready welder being £538 inclusive of import and postage from the land of the free, £200 for batteries and a extra bit for a charger. Still leaves me a significant budget to play with in the percurement of a welder to be used within the confines of my power supplied shed.
As there is some crusty Land Rover body 1.5mm 47 year old aluminium to be welded as well in this endeavour, and while the ready welder claims it can achieve this I don't think it has fine enough amperage control for the job (decent enough for 2-3mm thick steel chassis though).
Was looking at the parweld Xtt 202p and the gys multi pearl 200, two very different machines I know but was wondering if ac tig would be better for the job or synergic mig? I would be running them off a 13amp supply at the minuet as that all I got I believe the gys 110v performance could easily be achieved through this setup and the parweld at around 160ish possibly.
Buy a better welder as future proof as then to get a better one all i have to do is uprate the supply. Plus the ready welder will handle any really thick stuff for now as it can do up to 1/2 inch steel plate at 350amps and 36v with three batteries.
On that note dose anyone know of a uk supplier for tweco no2 mig torch consumeable, I can order them from the USA but would like a uk supplier if possible.
