Hi, A car on an 'A' frame is treated as a trailer, so it needs to be roadworthy. Plus as it will almost certainly weigh more than 750kgs it has to be braked, very few 'A' frames are tied into the vehicle brakes. I have found that police are reluctant to stop you if they think the rig is illegal because then, What do they do with you? They will almost certainly have to stay with you until the obstruction is resolved, otherwise you might drive off again and they have other things to do. VOSA on the other hand are more single minded, if not very well informed.
Premmington, have you thought about trying to get a letter from the local VOSA office stating that your set up is legal which you can then show to the roadside team?

I have removed the signwriting from the side of the Disco 2 and only left the writing on the spare wheel cover.
Now I look like a non business user and get pulled far less.
