I've had an enquiry about making four 5m wide arches to span a patio area (fixings to brick walls either side) so that the clients can grow plants over the top and create some shade as the area is a bit of a sun trap and gets too hot in the summer.
I've been down to see the site as it's just down the road and can see that there's a lot of work involved in it, especially as the walls either side aren't of the same height. Turns out the client's budget is never going to pay for what they want (decorative wrought ironwork - I'm a blacksmith) so I'm now trying to think if it's possible to do it using some pre-fab kit pieces alongside some bits and bobs that I fab up to pretty it up a smidge.
Pre-fab stuff and kit items are completely new to me so apart from Brundles and Parker Tools I wouldn't know where to look really. Could anyone suggest some companies or aparatus that might be work a look into? I'm thinking possibly something like steel cable that you tension at either end in a sort of suspension bridge way? Is there a 5-meter-span-arches-R-us company? :-D
I'm fairly certain it's not going to go ahead unless they up their budget significantly, but I want to show willing as there may be other jobs they need doing in the future / pass my name onto friends etc.
Cheers
