Hi All,
I thought I would share my thoughts on some of the 3d filament I have put through my printer so far.
Printer Anet A8, bought from Amazon.
Printing time 26 days 9H32M
Filament printed 5521.3 (I don't know what this value means, has been counting from 1st print but is not how much filament I have put through.)
The filaments are all PLA printed using a heated bed at 60c. Except for 1 filament.
In no particular order:
- BQ Flourescent orange.
Prints average at mid temperatures (198 -201c),
Dull satin finish on parts.
Doesn't string a lot.
Doesn't cope with overhangs well.
For me this is filament doesn't stand out at all. It requires (at least on my setup) quite a precise dial in on the temperature. Anything outside 198-202c and it barely prints, at the higher end it clogs the nozzle. Layer adhesion is not amazing, it holds but thinner prints seem more fragile than when printing with other filaments.
Approximately 700g printed.
- Ziro Gold
Prints very well at lower temperatures (195-198c)
More an aged gold than a clean gold.
Very good for decorative parts has a great sheen.
Doesn't scar when removing supports.
Some stringing usually when moving from support to support.
Very easy to print with has a really nice sheen to it that enhances the metallic look.
Bonds well.
Has trouble bridging above 5mm length. I like this one because I can get some very pretty prints with it.
Approximately 500g printed.
- Ziro Luminescent Blue (glow in the dark)
Difficult to print with. Good prints at high temperatures (215-217c) Bed temp (75c)
No cooling, Prints like a semi flexible material.
Has faint translucency makes for great looking 'bone'. Glows in the dark... .
Have to print at slow speed or bed and layer adhesion become an issue.
I like this filament a lot, I am printing another glow in the dark Dragon Skull at the moment for a work colleague, already have 3x sets of horns ready need 2 more skulls after this one.
Approx 300g printed
- AMZ3D Black
Prints very well at most temperatures (195-208c)
Strings badly above 200c, so single prints or spend some time cleaning up afterwards (a micro blowtorch is very good for this).
Scars badly when removing supports (white lines).
It doesn't sand well as prints go dull and grey.
I love this stuff!! it was the first filament I bought after burning through the paltry 10m of testing filament the first day.
I have had some amazing prints with this stuff. Has a high gloss finish and always seems to print well.
I use it for decoratives that require no support or upgrades for my printer as it prints so well (don't mind the scarring on functional pieces).
I have printed approximately 3x1KG rolls of this through my printer and it hasn't let me down.
These are all I have used so far.
I am planning on trying some ABS filament soon, I just need to sort out an enclosure for my printer and some ventilation.
Richard
