As the problem still exists why not temporarily rig up a couple of bulb holders, stick one on the ignition live and one on the pump live. Drive and observe,may help eliminate.

The MAF is just a potentiometer driven by a vane in the airflow. Just like a volume control, they get noisy in old age.Nice car and you clearly know more about them than me, but they (scorpios) were known for maf problems back in the day
It wouldnt be the first time a brand new part has been faulty.
I would never fit an aftermarket MAF to anything for that exact reason any sensor or electronics on any engine get genuine parts if possible

Where do you go for genuine parts when the OEM has discontinued them due to age?
