0.6 wire ?

I have to do some car body repairs and as Im quite new to mig welding i have never used 0.6 wire. I have seen here that people seem to say that 0.6 is better for the thinner metal so would it be a good idea for me to get some will it make that much difference than the 0.8 ?

It will cut the current/heat down by at least 30% (0.6mm wire is 56% size of 0.8mm). There is a considerable difference.

Thanks for that shenion I will get myself a coil of 0.60 then and hopefully get the job done with not to much trouble.

I had hells own game recently,blowing through panels and generally melting the vehicle,not being able to turn the welder down low enough.It wasnt til I finished the job,that now looked like a rusty cauliflower, that I remembered there was 1.0 wire in the machine.

So....yes,it makes a hell of a difference and (machine dependent) gives you much more control over power and penetration, even in your case with the 0.8 to 0.6 comparison. You can normally turn a machine up to what you need on bodywork but its hard to get it to turn down.

Get yourself some 0.6 tips,a good few and a pot of anti spatter for a clear job. If you find you keep welding the wire to the shroud,dip it in the anti spatter pot.If you keep welding the wire to the tip,try an 0.8 tip.Sometimes works.You probably know all this stuff already but buy the biggest spools your machine will handle for economy,label the spools as to the gauge of wire and keep it nice and dry.
