I agree the wire is probably too skinny (approx 4mm diameter from some old jump leads), but I just wanted to use what I already had lying around. This is just a proof of concept really.
I'll try doubling up the cable, I still have the black one left so I'll unwind the red one and rewind the...
I watched the video again and the secondaries are definitely wired in series, primaries in parallel. Seems to work well. I'm not sure I'd need three transformers for my application. Besides, if they draw 7A each, that would be 21A in total which would be too much for my 13A circuit.
Here's some photos. The sheet is 0.6mm mild steel and the rod is 2.5mm mild steel. This one did stick but was very easy to break. I think I might need more current and/or voltage. I've seen a youtube video where the guy made a diy stud welder, but he used 3 transformers wired in series I think...
I've built a simple spot welder out of an old microwave transformer, but I want to do single sided spot welds rather then sandwiching the work between the two electrodes so it's more like a stud welder. I'm joining 3mm max diameter mild steel rod perpendicular to thin sheet steel. It does work...
I don't have any experience of that machine, but even though it is cheap, by the time you've shelled out for a torch etc you could have bought a decent used TIG kit with HF start etc for about the same money. HF start is a very useful feature to have, especially when learning to TIG.
Banggood...
Anybody seen Kwando Technics videos on Youtube? He uses a very strange method a bit like manual pulse. He also welds galv to non-galv without removing the zinc first. I don't know he gets away without having to constantly regrind the tungsten.
Here's an example (welding starts at 3:00):
I...
In my experience Lidl tools are much better than Aldi ones and they offer more unusual items like this plasma cutter. Aldi tends to only offer more common stuff like cordless drills, hand tools etc
I've been waiting for years (literally) for this plasma cutter to appear at Lidl. I saw on this forum that they'd been available in Ireland for a while, but not in the UK. Thankfully, I managed to grab one at my local Lidl last Thursday. There were only two on the shelf, I got one and a lady got...
I have a Jasic DC180 machine that came with a WP17 torch. I'm pretty happy with it, but I only weld thin steel so don't need lots of amps. Did your machine come with a WP26 torch? If you don't need the current capacity of the WP26 it would be worth changing it for a smaller WP9/WP17 with a more...
When I started out with TIG I learnt on a machine with a big WP26 torch and a stiff, heavy hose. I wasn't welding anything heavy so it was way OTT. I switched to a WP9 with a nice flexible hose and that was much better for the kind of lightweight stuff that I do. I eventually settled on a WP17...
What kind of compressor do you need for this plasma cutter? I would probably only ever cut up to 6mm steel max. Would my 24 litre SIP compressor be man enough?
3:10 into this video guy covers aluminium sheet with soot from an OA torch and then burns it off again to gauge temperature.
I don't know much about ally welding, but this doesn't sound right to me. I thought the metal was supposed to be as clean as possible, not covered in soot. Not convinced...
I made some of these a while back. Very handy for cutting tubes and box section. Just steel scraps tigged at the ends as the triangles are too close together to weld all the way. Seem strong enough though.

No, I meant this one. It's a circular saw for wood.

I have an older version of this one, which is not brushless and is bit underpowered, but it's ok for ripping up sheets of ply, mdf etc into more manageable sized pieces.
As for the...
Lidl have a 20V brushless drill/driver with a 5 year guarantee for £70 on offer this week.

There's also a circular saw and angle grinder, both with brushless motors.
I have a few Lidl tools and they're pretty good for the money. Fine...
While browsing my local bargain emporium, I spotted these car ashtrays for the princely sum of 52p!
Just drill out the hole a bit, fling a magnet in the bottom and they make a nice non-spill oil pot.
This an identical one from ebay...
