120v that one has 115v,would this matter
How is that going to help on a transformer AC output? You can always add a voltage regulator to the output side which will give a constant 12 volts, a TO 220 packaged 79012 works well and has a range of current outputs.
Very good point, if everything else looks good then i personally would be looking at upgrading from the 6va one fitted so something a little bigger.small point but....
transformers don't go pop by themselves that often. Have you traced where the yellow wires go to see if anything else downstream has failed?
if checking for short circuits make sure you disconnect at least one yellow wire before checking with a meter as otherwise the transformer will look like a short to the meter

If it has a rectifier to convert it to DC it will likely already have a regulator

Umm the op asked for advice on a transformer so I just don't know how suggesting using something which won't work on an ac waveform is helping? If he had said I have a problem with a dc output then your suggestion may have helped.Instead of making assumptions how about thinking. The OP never stated the actual set up and it could have either/or and offering a suggestion is helpful for the Op to know his options. But of course the status quo returns.
NOTED thanksdon't worry if you have already ordered and cannot see anything else wrong just connect a 0.5amp fuse in line with the output side when you try it just in case
if it all works ok then up the fuse to 1 amp or so and it would still save the transformer if something goes wrong intermittently

Your not wrong there. (Not by me though )Once again its assumption.
