just got my portamig 216 this week and have to say that buying one was the best decision I've ever made.
after a rocky start with the delivery company being a day late and delivering the box upside down and damaged i was worried that would be the end of it there and then.
however it was well packaged inside the box and the only damage was a bent tang that the chain goes through, a bend in the chassis panel where the axle for the wheels go through and a bit of paint knocked off the rear edge (seems to me the must have shifted it form one van to another and dragged it on its rear edge hence the damage and turned it upside down putting it into another van).
all of it bent back with little effort and the missing paint is hidden by the rear panel so you would never know.
I've sourced a bottle of argonsheild from BOC using the volkszone deal and got it all set up.
straight off the bat without adjusting any settings i was getting better welds than I've ever done with the sealey 150 machine i had before.
the wire speed is automatic to the amperage settings with a fine speed adjuster for tweeking between settings.
the trigger is nice and easy to use and suprisingly flexible.
one thing i really like is all of the cables and the shielding gas feed pipe are really long, much longer than the sealeys which means i don't have to drag the machine to the vice whenever i want to use it. plus it means i can place the argo bottle in a different location to the welder so its easier to get to while the welders under the bench.
the only negative i can think of is that it weighs a ton so getting it in and out of my van is going to be a 2 man job.
im so chuffed with it and would recommend it to anyone else who might be thinking of getting/upgrading to one (although you may want to collect it from the factory yourself).
i will try and get some photos up sometime.
regards
james
