That was another think I was going to ask, how do I remove the quill? The bearings don't feel too smooth so I wanted to have a look at them, clean them and replace if they're too far gone.If it's a spiral torsion spring you may be able to buy a length of the material, remove the quill and use the star wheel to wind the spring.

This worked too, thanks.depending on what you got...................................pull the pinion out, the quill should then come out the bottom easily
