eil, we used to slide a single piece of rubber air hose onto the ends of the handles in a bow shape & it acts like a spring & holds the jaws open then you can really make bonus cuts at a gr8 rate of knots.Cant see the bits of pipe on the handles for the extra leverage in that pic Bright
+1 for the gilbowsI still use my Dads' old Gilbow tin snips. Must be 40 yrs old and still go through sheet like a hot knife through butter.
they live on the banding trolley.
bought another pair today from autojumble 3 quid ,a quick sharpen on the disk sander and the blades are as good as new . just need some blue paint now and add to my collection just need another set of left, handed ones now for work
We should call you 'Snipper'.
Cutting 2.5mm with Gilbows I would go for 'Evil Gripper'.
Monodex hand nibblers used to be stocked in the odd outlet, theyre great, drill a small hole to start the cut in the middle of a wing or something, you can cut weird shapes out as the minimum radius is very small, downside a tad slower to use & get hand ache on longer cuts but one big advantage over tinsnips, the cut edge is safe to handle.
If youve ever used an electric nibbler, the downside to them is the sharp half moons that get everywhere that are ejected, but the hand nibblers just produce a round "snail" of kerf material which is easy to get rid of and clean up.
I could never work out why someone didnt make a powered version of the monodex style ones that cut the curls. Maybe they do, if someone see's one can you post up?
