I have been offered a 1981 Toyota Landcruiser FJ60, long wheelbase, as part payment for some work.
I know absolutely nothing about them and wonder if anyone could enlighten me. This one was in storage by the first owner who used it for one year then stored it for 25 years until sold to current owner. It is unmodified with all chrome trim an original parts. It has 60k from new and the interior looks like it is a time warp - original velour seats are all unmarked. It had a respray three years ago but has since been parked up outside with little use and the wheel arches are crumbling along with some bubbling rust spots, mainly where badges are mounted and the vents on the scuttle below the windscreen. ( there was no underbody protection applied unfortunately. The chassis etc however are perfect.
They have put a value of approx £2000 on it which I did think was quite high however I can find no reference to any which have sold recently and I am rather taken by its retro American looks and the fact it is 100% original.
What are the bodies like to weld? There see to be a limited amount of repair panels available at some cost from Canada, other tank that it seems I will have to fabricate any repair panels ( not a problem, I do that sort of thing quite a bit and have a fully equipped workshop) I'm just wondering it I may be letting myself in for more work than anticipated if I do take it on.
