SIP - enough with the mods!!!!

Right for my next automotive project I think I would be better off with a plasma cutter for some of the prep work - I have a lot of cutting - nothing more than 2mm and mostly 1mm steel however the cuts don't lend themselves to slitting disc work as lots of corners and tight spots
So "Experience is what you get when you don't want it"
Back in the mists of time I bought an SIP Mig welder - it was pretty awful as purchased and I spent a lot of time upgrading/improving it until it wasn't actually a bad bit of kit except for some power/wire feed variation.
However I got so frustrated with my level of progress after I had an instructional session with a Portamig that I sacked the SIP and sold my soul for a Portamig
Now I'm looking at a plasma cutter and I really don't want to make the same damn mistake again
So my choices are
- risk the second minefield to get something 240 volt that is working (rather than spares repairs)
- go for chinesse box mover and potentially risk another SIP experience
- Up the budget and go for something with a better brand (probably still take-away internals)
However the more I spend on a Plasma cutter the less I have in the project pot and I'm now getting to the point where I'm more confused than when I started looking
