Woodburner chimney (again !)

Finally got round to making a gas bottle woodburner but before I weld the chimney on how good a seal does it have to be to the bottle ?

I'll only be using the burner outside as a patio heater and was thinking that a detachable chimney would make it easier to store over winter. Probably just weld a couple 3 or 4 lugs to the body and screw the chimney in place to these. Would the draw of the chimney over come the fact that there wasn't a perfect seal between it and the body or is this gap going to affect the way the burner works ? (Chimney is a 900mm length of 15mm flue pipe)

You should be fine, my pot-belly stove has a loose fitting flue and there are no problems at all.

Woodburner Flue

Hi.

I build the burners with a 4 1/2" flue, 50 cm tall/ Also some people get an extension which is also 50cm tall, which I weld a 2" strip around the bottom so 1" overlaps. It is very sturdy and is then of course removeable. Works a treat.

hi para, great looking burner.

I made something a while back but had trouble getting decent paint. I bought spray on and the coverage was rubbish and its starting to look tatty already.

Can you tell me what paint you used please and if possible where you got it?

I always find the brush on stove paint lasts longer than the spray. You can get it in a wee tin

Not wanting to highjack the thread, but all relevant. I have currently got some paint from Thermacure, but had to buy a gallon at £50 ish. They will not sell to private either but I am a sole trader so they were happy. It is ok but you have to be careful not to go too hot while curing it. The best result I have is using Halfords Very High Temp manifold paint. £5.99 and I thin it 50/50 and spray it on. Trouble is, they don't carry much stock and you are lucky to find it on the shelf.
Will do my next one using a brush finish to see how it turns out. I find the initial coats using brush difficlut.
