I didn't live that long a time in dear ol rainy Blighty....
I do believe this is a part of the MOT test now, checking the condition of the brake fluid, where easily accessible.Of course not black or unchanged brake fluid. I'd be willing to bet I am the only person in my town or one of single figures who does regard brake fluid as a service item and changes it!
I have believed for a long time that critical thinking should be taught In school from an early age. Binning religious studies would make room for it.I think the most important thing they should be teaching is school is to learn how to filter the crap out of what you read on the internet, and how to spot the good information,

Been a while since I was testing but I try to keep up to date , I haven’t heard anything about testing brake fluid though.

You can buy a gadget that dips into the fluid to test forWhilst it's not sent off to the lab for testing, it's just a visual check for contamination by colour. Brake fluid contamination is a major fail.

Theoretically the brake fluid should never have any contact with the atmosphere, once it’s in and the cap is on. There’s a flexible rubber seal on top of it that rises and falls with the level, as pads wear.Yeah water testing - brake fluid is hygroscopic - I got a Facom kit to test this...
