Its a flashing LED connected to the permanent live via a fuse and switch. The alarm doesn't have aFlashing LED function.
Stepping back, is it actually a flashing LED or is the alarm providing the pulse to a standard LED? LEDs don't tend to fail that way.
Not sure as it came ready made and sealed with shrink wrap I can look laterRight OK, what resistor do you currently have in series?
You could just regulate the power supply to the lamp. A 7812 and a couple of capacitors is all it would take.
Doesn't a 7812 require some headroom to work? I can't remember, so I'm not even saying it does, but I think it might.
Could you send me a link to the correct resistor please?Yes, about 2V for good regulation but as you can see from the test bench, for SFA current it works splendidly as a limiter which was the intention. However it is all academic as all he needs is a resistor.
At 30mA for a led, you want a total about 500R at 14.7v or 400R at 12v.
With the lm7812, at what currents would you suggest the dropout becomes relevant?
Could you send me a link to the correct resistor please?
I havent looked up a datasheet for flashing led's but 30mA is fairly normal for a standard led and I assume flashers are the same.
Thanks much appreciatedI will put some in the post tomorrow. Any 1/4 Watt will do of around the same resistance. I will send you a selection, so try them and use the greatest resistance which gives a good visibility. As Kram says, there is no need to remove what is fitted, just add it in series.
I suspect there is a missing "e", much as I suspect you really meant an "f", rather than it being required as an extra warning to following driversAre glashing brake lights strictly legal in the UK?

I think they come as standard on some newer cars when heavy breaking. Some activate the hazards when heavy breaking but I'm sure I've seen some Astras and BMWs with flashing brake lights. Are glashing brake lights strictly legal in the UK?
You beat me to itI think they come as standard on some newer cars when heavy breaking. Some activate the hazards when heavy breaking but I'm sure I've seen some Astras and BMWs with flashing brake lights.
I followed a car the other night where the brakes gave a sudden single fast flash each time they came on, then stayed solid.I think they come as standard on some newer cars when heavy breaking.
