Anyone clearing out - especially if they have used the place as storage for several years - has my deepest sympathy.
I've done it twice in the last couple of years (my family home - where we rediscovered "stuff in boxes to sort" that we put at the back of the garage 20 years ago when we moved in, also a close relatives place that had been their family home for 40 years and had "important stuff" from 7 family members including me scattered around the place).
Lessons I learned :
Throwing things in the skip is against my nature so I avoid it at all costs.
Charity shops are getting picky, especially anything electrical (pat tests..)
Giving stuff away free or on Eb@y "99p" sales is a magnet for timewasters.
I know what I paid for my stuff but realistically it's worth a lot less in todays market hence it's difficult for me to let stuff go.
Selling on Eb@y used to be fair for buyers & sellers, now it's hard work and too many idiots / fraud cases. I avoid.
Selling on here can work (I've had bargains, I've also offloaded things cheaply just for a low hassle deal).
Worst case get a house clearance crowd in, they pay peanuts but it's a low stress option.
Be lucky
