All my tellies are LG - if/when one goes pffut I'll def be buying another as a replacement.
That’s a shame really because I quite liked Sony kit, although they had some quirky designs for tv’s during the late 70-80’s like the KV1800 set that had a gto device instead of a conventional transistor in the line stage…There are many reasons for that advice, much of it a result of them not being what they appear to be anymore. Buggy, slow OS, no backup and a customer service attitude that is utterly disgusting.
This in my opinion is why there are no longer any Sony shops and why they are now Foxtel with a Sony badge... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal

Surprisingly enough, we have a Sammie 22” job in the caravan, bought new in 2009, still works fine…although the sound is ****e, so supplemented with a soundbar and sub, must admit it don’t get a lot of use…Samsung, both tvs at chateau Bullet are Samsung, always have a good picture, and seem reliable, also although ours are about 8 years difference in age either remote will work on both
the tv and video side of it sony got too big for there boots and had the attitude to go with it as wellThere are many reasons for that advice, much of it a result of them not being what they appear to be anymore. Buggy, slow OS, no backup and a customer service attitude that is utterly disgusting.

Have a look on richer sounds once you have decided on the TV, last one we bought was considerably less money and a 6 year warranty. Curry's wanted to charge a fortune for any kind of warranty.
What's your Panasonic doing slow starting??My now 16 year old Panasonic Viera is not long for this world I fear.
I received a management report this morning that it was "playing up" during last nights airing of Call The Midwife. For those not familiar with this program, my survival is contingent on the managements ability to view it uninterrupted on a Sunday evening.
After @ajlelectronics talked me out of the Sony I was considering I have been looking at this
Based on being impressed with the picture quality when perusing a local Currys store
Any thoughts on this or an alternative? Picture quality is my priority
I couldn’t care less if Sony are tracking what I watch on YouTube / TV, they aren’t going to learn anything interesting about me!
Yes, and it is completely irrelevant to purchasing a TV.Did you actually read the wiki link?

When my CRT packed up during the first lockdown I ended up buying from Richer Sounds. I kind-of agree about the warranty thing (that is, I've read stuff about things needing to work for an acceptable period of time, not just the standard twelve months cover that is usually talked about) but what swayed me away from Currys, then John Lewis, was that Richer offered the same TV for a few pounds less than either Currys or JL, but with the six year warranty included in the price. I don't know if I'd have paid extra if none of the retailers offered "included" warranties. When I bought the CRT, I extended the warranty to five years and I think it added £10 to the total price, but of course the receipt had the warranty at the full £70-odd, and the discount was off the TV.Warranties are generally a waste of money. The law covers up to six years for an inherent defect anyway. If it included accidental damage etc, then (just) maybe but I wouldn't be paying any extra.
