Ok, I hope not to keep repeating myself but I can't give much in the way of knowledge but perhaps my questions etc will help others, and out of many forums I follow this does seem to be the one with most knowledgeable and helpful people....
I have some space in a mate’s workshop where I am setting up various blast machines, I have somehow acquired several compressors.... that can be useful as there is little point running a huge one when you only need 5cfm and 40psi…
so my thoughts were to be able to swap and change depending on things in use... ultimately it would be nice to have a few £000 to spend on getting the place fully wired but at the moment is it make do....
I have a 32A 4pin 3 phase socket which is fine for the smaller compressors. but I would like to test out everything I have and if things worked and perhaps 2-4 machines were running at the same time use the Big one...
So the Big one is a Demag 040 which has a 22kw motor, it has a 5 core connection and requires a 40a D rated breaker...
Firstly, so if I described the compressors as small, medium, large and very large, all but the very large could run off the 32a socket, and my initial thoughts were; I could, depending on which cabinet was being used select the compressor that would deliver the air requirement….
Obviously if just using my small vapor blaster my H15 hydrovane is going to be much more than needed to do that, but a friend said I should simply use the big Hydrovane and feed it into a tank, as although 111kw it will would be more efficient than a smaller compressor if used blasting all day as it would be using a lot less power when in “off load mode”, and should we construct a Blast room then use the Demag all the time….
So what is the best use of the compressors I have? (15cfm 33cfm 66cfm 135cfm) (and 500L tank)
Next my new power socket… needs to be a 5 pin (will convert 4pin to 5 pin as well at some point and all machines to 5 pin)
having spoken to 2 sparkies i know they seem to disagree about things..
one has proposed 4mm 5core SY cable, 40a D breaker and a 32a interlock switch box, says the 32a switch can easily deal with the Big compressor and would give lots of flexibility..
the other to hardwire the Demag 5core 6mm armored cable, 40A D breaker with an inline switch unit as the Big compressor needs to be hardwired to a dedicated supply.
It may be the Demag is only connected to test, and in the future a second breaker board will be installed on the other side of the unit and it will be supplied by that…
Options, ideas suggestions….
