I could be mistaken but they look like Crabtree C50 breakers - so fairly old, probably 70s. If they are then I believe they are fairly reliable units by all accounts.
Obviously completely outdated now and there is no RCD protection on the board so very far from ideal by modern standards, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is immediately dangerous providing the rest of the installation is acceptable.
The taped up cables hanging underneath concern me more.
One thing you will need to be aware of at that age is chance the cables may be aluminium instead of copper - in which case you are really on a hiding to nothing with the entire installation.
If you want to know the score for certain, you will need to commission an EICR, preferably a proper one rather than the "drive-by style" that so many seem to offer these days
Possibly not the best idea to post up the alarm code either
What problems do aluminium wires cause???

Never even noticed it.......I could be mistaken but they look like Crabtree C50 breakers - so fairly old, probably 70s. If they are then I believe they are fairly reliable units by all accounts.

i hardly think someone is going to the extreme of finding out the address and going round and burgle the place i could shut that alarm up without it going off outsideAny admin able to cut off the top bit of pic in original post?
If the alarm triggers when the electrical supply fails the chances are that the alarm system battery is dead. The bell box has a battery too and thinks the system is under attack.Never even noticed it.......
I was sent the pic as the alarm keeps going off with the numerous power cuts in the area.
Was initially so could "pull the alarm fuse" and disable it.
It is a tenement flat so speculated could be anything in there wiring wise
I haven't seen in the flesh yet hence asking how much sucking of teeth the installation deserved
Only because it is not my property i asked about the editing. No idea if that is still the code either.i hardly think someone is going to the extreme of finding out the address and going round and burgle the place i could shut that alarm up without it going off outside
I guessed about the alarm, but as mentioned above, the easiest solution at the time was to disable it completely. If the alarm triggers when the electrical supply fails the chances are that the alarm system battery is dead. The bell box has a battery too and thinks the system is under attack.
Just change the alarm code if needed; I doubt anyone knows where the property is and it sounds like it’s not operational anyway.
With the electrical installation I would suggest that you budget for a complete rewire.
It may be wired with PVC/PVC insulated cables showing no sign of deterioration but could have a limited number of sockets or been badly DIY’d or any number of other scenarios. Until it’s inspected you will never know.
Keep us posted as to how you get on.
Will look for the bonding too, forgot about thatif its wired in imperial cable that has an earth wire in it its not a problem providing it tests out ok. minimum is change the db and probably needs the gas -water services bonding
It won't comply to modern regulations because it doesn't need to. as long as it complies to the regs in force when it was installed it complies!
if the house is rented out it must have an 18th edition twin rcd board fitted and earth bonding or a rcbo board and current certThe OP's picture shows a CU with no main switch and no RCD protection, both of which would be sensible improvements.
