Our boat fridge has stopped getting really cold and is now hard to tell if it's cooling at all. It's a small Danfos compressor fridge.
I asked a reluctant engineer to look at it but I could not be there, he said he put in a little gas and it worked. When I tried it a couple of weeks later the compressor would only run for 1 minute switching off then repeat.
I contacted the engineer who said ambient pressure may be different now and to reduce the pressure a bit! I did this in small steps over time and now the compressor runs but the fridge is only very slightly cool.
I can't find anyone in my area who deals with boat fridges so am going to try to sort it out myself.
The compressor runs and sound normal,
The fan runs as normal and the condenser is clear of dust.
The cold side pipe to compressor gets condensation on it ( I don't think it used to)
I have bought 2 refills of R143a and an AC hose/gauge that I can connect to the only available filling point (low pressure side)
Question is the AC hose/gauges indicate 25psi to 45psi is in the correct band with the compressor running but some videos on youtube covering fridges say 2psi, 11psi and 5-10psi and warn to ignore the automotive gauge markings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
