What is the relationship of the air cap to the tip? How do different air caps affect say, a 1.4mm tip? With the spray guns I have it’s possible to change the size of the fluid tip without changing the air cap or it’s possible to change to a different air cap without changing the fluid tip. Are different air caps available for either of the spray guns that you linked in your previous posts?
Those sound like nice guns and good fluid tip sizes.I just got an FLG 5 for £55 with a 1.4mm tip and I have the Iwata AZ3 HTE2 with a 1.8mm for primer. Hopefully good to go with those. Made a list of final bits to get and then it will be time to make an attempt... Once the weather sorts itself out! Probably a few weeks away from getting everything I need, but feels good to have a plan in motion.
How much paint am I likely to need to do a full car? 4.4m long, 1.7m wide, using the Nisocoat? Is there a formula to calculate etc.?
Because the previous owner made a start sanding bits, I actually need to paint everything. I'll likely be taking the doors off to paint all the area of the body that's hidden beneath them. Might be easier to paint them off the car at that point, might not. I'll probably paint just past where the door cards cover rather than strip them bare on the inside. It's a big job... I hope I can pull it off.
Is nisocoat really that thick that you need that much thinner? When I was at college the preferred way of making sure paint was mixed correctly was to use a viscosity cup when adding thinners and add thinners to get the required time as per the paint tdsGet some paint mixing cups which go up to atleast 30% on the thinner scale. I found guesstimating to 40% wasn't a bad idea with the solid colour
Could have been that I was using a 1.3 fluid tip rather than the specified 1.4-1.8.Is nisocoat really that thick that you need that much thinner? However, data sheet says 2:1:<0.75.
I've never understood why paint mixing cups give the paint and hardener as a ratio but then use a percentage for the thinner. I assume 30% on a mixing cup equates to 0.3 as a decimal / ratio number? Maybe it should be a fraction...any wisdom much appreciated!
