that type needs a cross section for the flues gasses to escape from underneath the kettle base then rises at side of the kettle
Let me get my head round this a bit more then I will be seeking your assistancethat type needs a cross section for the flues gasses to escape from underneath the kettle base then rises at side of the kettle
all of them including the ops version also spits out ash embers as well thats why you have verry little ash near the end of the burn
the offset types actually preheat the secondary air more than the 90 degree ones
this one uses the lifted up method and wind deflector above / both use the method direct to chimney via the hotplate
if you have a chimney 2" lower than the top the flames tend to take the easy route instead of up and then down and out to the chimney which then takes longer to heat up than direct heat to the under part of the kettle
This is good.@Parm
3mm 4" square steel is enough for the rocket stove upriser
it is for boiling a kettle or making something to eat in a fried reference its not as if we are going to be cooking on it for a very long time or be carrying it a long way
if we was carrying it extra added insulation is just pure weight we dont want to be carrying
5mm sq steel is too heavy and it will take a while to heat up enough
if we was going to be cooking all day long with one then please do insulate it as i would be using firebrick with slots down the 8" sides cut into it and slid into place by angle iron 3mm on all corners more as protection for the steel holding the firebrick in place the external side you can drop down to 1-2mm as its only a cover over of the firebrick
your sticks are too big therefore not providing enough air movement
to a degree your pic shows its jammed full
to stop the tar effect allow just enough air into the wood chamber its stops the effect from happening
remember mines a bigger firebox
i had the same issue as i wanted a longer wood box like yourself what happens because the feedbox is close to the riser height it can back feed rather well this is whats happening with the smoke thats why its taring up
i drilled mine and then fitted a slot just to allow enough air into the firebox
reference was posted on this first page same as the video to my large firebox with 80mm box section
Rocket Stove
I made my first rocket stove today. Dead easy to make and a great project for welders of all experience. I'll give it a test run later and post more pics.www.mig-welding.co.uk
the large firebox throws some other problems up so i tend not to advise it as tried it myself
